The trend in clothing manufacturing is to use ever cheaper materials and cheap labor exploitation to produce clothes that are thrown away after being worn only a few times. This trend, sometimes referred to as ‘fast fashion’, has detrimental effects on the environment since the clothes end up as landfill.
Eco friendly clothing seeks to change this through the concept of ethical clothing manufacturing which track the entire supply chain of the clothes’ production. This means that a consumer knows who made the clothes, whether they were paid a fair price for materials and labor and whether working conditions were safe. Some suppliers also make clothes from biodegradable materials in non-polluting factories to help lessen their impact on the environment. It often means emphasizing the use of sustainable materials in clothes manufacturing and encouraging customers to wear them for longer periods.
