Peer review is the process of submitting a scientist’s or scholar’s academic work or research to other experts in the field to assess whether it meets the standards in a discipline with the aim maintaining the quality of published works.

Peer review services are organizations that offer this service so that those publishing scholarly work can be assured of its quality before submitting it for publication. Such services are usually provided in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine. They will check the work for accuracy and provide advice on how it can be improved – for example, making sure that arguments are based on existing work in the field and that the correct terminology and structure has been used. Such work, for instance, must follow the IMRAD structure which specifies that it must contain Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion sections.
