Adventure travel appeals to those who want to do more than just lie on the beach or shop. If that sounds like you, you may want to pack your sporting equipment and head for Queenstown, New Zealand, which has been described as the adventure capital of the world. The town is in a dramatic mountain setting and offers white water rafting, hang gliding, sky diving and snowboarding. The surrounding countryside offers plenty of opportunities for hiking, sailing and mountaineering, especially in nearby Fiordland National Park, and the chance to explore locations used in the Lord Of the Rings trilogy. But the small resort of Queenstown may be best known for the adrenaline fueled act of bungy jumping. The town is the site of the world’s first commercial bungy jump which opened in 1888, and is today home to several of the world’s highest and most exciting jumps.
