We live in a world of snap impressions where we have to weigh factors and make up our minds very quickly. Yet sometimes one has to ask if we haven’t gone too far with this need for instant decision making. Take the concept of speed dating.
This is the practice of bringing together a large group of singles who are interested in meeting other singles. Everybody is seated with one person for a few minutes of time and then moves on to the next table and so on. The concept is that you get to meet a lot of people in a very short period of time and don’t have to go to the expense of actually dating 50 potential candidates individually.
But can you really get to know someone in that short a time or is it all going to be a superficial exercise in looks and employment prospects without delving into the inner self?
