Located just over an hour from the country’s main airport in San Jose, Jaco Costa Rica is one of the most popular beach destinations in this Central American country. Although developed, the coast at Jaco retains much of its laid back and Bohemian feel, reminding many visitors of a Californian surfing resort. As well as some great surfing, the stretch of coast offers opportunities for snorkeling and fishing, while hiking, cycling and zip-lining are popular too. Shopping is excellent in Jaco, with many stores specializing in local arts and crafts, and the nightlife ranges from small bars and cafes to trendy restaurants and casinos. There is accommodation for every budget too, with cottages and condos near the beach being especially popular. One of the area’s best day trips is to Manuel Antonio National Park, known for its stunning views and diversity of wildlife.
