Information Technology (IT) management is the discipline of administering all of an organization’s information technology infrastructure to meet its business needs and priorities. It includes tangible items such as computer hardware, software, data, networks and data center facilities as well as the expertise and knowledge of the employees that run and manage these elements.

The primary goal of IT management is to generate desired business outcomes through the use of technology; the aim is to align business strategies with the technology that is used to realize them. This requires management functions such as budgeting, human resources and change management to be integrated with the unique needs of managing computer technology such as managing software, network topology, user support and data storage, among others. The primary focus is value creation for a business through the efficient and strategic use of technology.
