What Is An Editorial Model?

An editorial model in print magazines is a model that is used when the editor is trying to project a particular image or tell a story through images. It often includes a photo shoot that features that model exclusively in a particular location or series of locations that meet the requirements for the look or story being told. This usually involves some aspect of various people’s lifestyles.

Such editorials are used to project the magazine’s prestige so, in turn, the models that are used for these features are typically well known and have a reputation as being at the peak of their modelling careers. While unusual, it is not impossible for a relatively inexperienced model to be offered such work but it is regarded as a coup to achieve such a role and can be a jump-start for their career.
