Salad Blast From The Past

In a world where retro is a hot concept, a number of once ubiquitous household items are making a comeback after years, even decades, of being absent from the scene. In the 1960s and 70s, it seemed like every household in the country had a set of coconut shell salad bowls.

They had many advantages. They were very light. They were durable. If you dropped one on the floor, it was going to bounce rather than shatter. Best of all, they lent an exotic, tropical flavor to even the most ordinary meals.

Of course a coconut salad bowl of today is also recognized as being environmentally friendly and buying a set of them helps provide jobs to people in impoverished Third World countries. They even come in a wide range of colors to choose from so long as you like dark brown.
