Floor runners are excellent rugs for protecting the floor in hallways, entrances, and along frequently used paths in your home. Runners are narrow rugs made in varying widths from 2 feet and 3 inches to 2 feet and 4, or 6 inches. The length can be as short as 3 to 4 feet and if 14 feet up to 105 feet or longer if custom made.

The floor runner is made in every type of rug-making pattern including braided and hand-knotted. These rugs are usually placed in well-traveled areas over carpeting and wood floors to protect them from scuffing, wear, and soiling.

Runners are also used to prevent slipping on slick floors. They can be used to provide a warm and comfortable surface to walk on if the floor is ceramic tile, concrete, vinyl, or wood.

Runners should match the form of your hallway and be placed in the center of the space with about 4 to 5 inches of floor visible on either side.
