Insulation of a home will be effective if a complete envelope is created to enclose all parts of the home that are affected by the outside weather. It is necessary to insulate attics, walls, floors, crawl spaces, and basements. Insulation can be of many types, batt insulation, foam insulation and others.
Your insulation installation must be such that there are no gaps in the encircling insulating envelope. Insulation of the batt or roll type must never be compressed, as it will lose its insulating properties. Joints between insulating materials must be sealed. The insulation should go around the back of pipes, and wiring. It may be necessary to split the insulation to do this. Care must be taken to see that the insulation does not cover any parts of the home’s ventilation system.
Sprayed foam insulation is the best, as it is able to penetrate the smallest areas and provide complete insulation.
