If you love tea, a visit to Assam in India puts you in the heart of one of the world’s top tea producing regions. The region is home to around 100 tea plantations, many of which welcome visitors, and offer a behind the scenes look at the production process. And many Assam tour packages include a tour of at least one major tea plantation, and of course the chance to sample the product. Some tours include traditional Colonial style accommodation in a plantation home. Although Assam is justifiably famous for its plantations, many tours take in some of the area’s other attractions. These include the Pobitora wildlife sanctuary, the Kamakhya Temple, the gardens at Agnigarh Hill, and perhaps a cruise on the Brahmaputra River, the country’s longest. Tours vary by cost, length of trip and standard of accommodation, making it a must to do some research before booking.
